We checked into the Globe Trotter Guest House, which is set amidst an idyllic jungle-like setting with the only sounds birds and peacocks calling out in their best fish wife voices: ideal for a quiet stay whilst doing some serious sightseeing in the area.
On the way we stopped at a Hindu temple in the Chola style, created by craftsmen from the south of India.
Next stop was a herb and spice garden that specialised in medicines. Here the guide showed us all the different trees and herbs describing what they are good at curing. At one point he said that a cream made from a mix of oils etc was good at hair removal. Geoff became the guinea pig and now has a small bald patch on one leg! We were guaranteed cures from anything from hair loss to a very interesting "how to clap with both hands" ( first time we've heard it described as such ) remedy for impotence. The tour around the plantation, full of trees and plants with herbal remedies was enlightening and educational, but the sales patter about a cure for everything does make you a trifle sceptical. Savi stayed at the Globetrotter Hotel in February 2000 and Ashika in the following May and have raved about it ever since. - Posted using BlogPress from my iPad
