All thoughts of the scenic train journey awaiting us forgotten: Jason and Geoff donned golf shoes, hired clubs and cabbies as soon as they learnt the next morning that non members were allowed to play.
Savi and Ashika sipped ginger tea from the terrace from china cups, admired the incredibly posh Victorian clubhouse, and of course the prowess of their spouses as they teed off into the horizon. Until they were out of sight that is!
Uncle Raja dropped the girls at the train station to join the locals and back packers, on what turned out to be the most spectacular train journey to Ella, whilst the boys toiled away hitting a little white ball into a little hole. Aaah!
The train was tired and shabby, but clean with food sellers hawking food from carriage to carriage. We watched enthralled, at the scenery munching peanuts that we'd bought from an elderly peanut seller. He obviously thought we needed looking after, as he came back to our carriage afterwards, pointing out landmarks and getting us ready for the next photo opportunity.
The peanut seller told us that he starts work on the 6am train, and comes home late in the evening. We are constantly impressed at how hard people work here and how friendly and cheerful they seem.
Then, we're at Ella, which is the name of one of my grand-daughters.
