It was a sobering thought that the Tsunami had devastated this area, killing many hundreds in this area. This simple monument, but so poignant, marks the tragedy.
Do you think these two figures gazing out over a beautiful shoreline, thinking of all those poor people who lost their lives, are related?
- HAPPY 2 nd ANNIVERSARY TO A VERY SPECIAL COUPLE. The exhilaration of the safari continued into the evening, as this was the reason we were all in Sri Lanka - to celebrate Ashika and Jason's wedding anniversary. We sat and supped Arrak and G & T gazing over paddy fields, listening to the night sounds of crickets, bats, owls and all manner of creatures and not forgetting the mozzies!
The next morning we were ready for some relaxing by the sea, via the Turtle Sanctuary. There are hundreds of turtle eggs, of five different types, buried In the sand. We we're told that turtle eggs are considered a great delicacy, and are sold for extortionate prices, so the sanctuary buy them from the fishermen, bury them to hatch in safety, then release them back into the sea when big enough.
This one was wanting his dinner!
On top of the Dutch Fort, which gave us an entertaining view of an inter- school sports day, bag-pipes, kilts and Olympic stye podiums.
On the way, and all over Sri Lanka, are the amazing sight of these fishermen on stilts, who balance for hours, waiting for their catch.
Finally, to Rita's Place, where we joined the tourists for a bit of Sun, Sand and Surf!
